Running without having to prove anything
No programme. Just out, the same route, and home again.
You don’t need a watch that scores you. You need shoes that don’t blister and a loop you can still find when you’re tired. Ten minutes out is enough at the start. If you turn around, it was still running. Not “almost”.
The most useful rule: take the same route until it is boring. Boredom is not a fault here. It stops you starting a new self every time.
Three things that are enough
First: get out before the day files you. Second: a pace at which you could still say a sentence. Third: don’t reach for the phone immediately afterwards. Stand for a minute. Breathe. Done.
If you turn it into a character test you spoil it. It is movement. Sometimes you meet no one. Sometimes the same dog. Neither counts. What counts is that you went, without having to prove anything.
