The city at half past six
Before the noise starts, the place briefly belongs to no one in particular.
At half past six the city is not kinder. It is only less occupied. Bakery light. A bike. Someone with a bag going to a shift. You walk among that and don’t have to explain where you are going.
Later the same street becomes a backdrop. Appointments, vans, faces already in their next conversation. Early on it feels like a workshop that has not opened yet. You see the joins.
A place without a role
Some people need mountains to come down. Sometimes half an hour before the first appointment is enough, without headphones. Not as a routine you post. As a brief fact: you were there before the day distributed you.
Moving like that, you rarely meet a story. You meet the day before it assembles itself. That is reason enough to leave the house earlier — not to be more productive, but to see the city once without an audience.
